How I Spent $20 on an Ankle-Biting Bush

Yesterday I bought what amounts to a bush for $20. They call these midget trees in a midget pot Bonsai – but I'm not fooled. It's an ankle-biting, attention-hungry bush.

Don't get me wrong, I love the art of Bonsai, and I'm very much a plant enthusiast. I mean, c'mon, I have 15 plants – each of them with names and a special place in my heart.

But I think this time I bit off more than I can chew. I should have done a lot more research before I bought my midget bush.

You see, Bonsai are very much an outdoor plant. Some species can handle indoor life alright, but really they need a lot more sun than you can give them through a window.

My Japanese Juniper is one such Bonsai that really needs to be outdoors. Unfortunately, I live in an apartment and don't have a sunny porch.

I can adapt to that though. We have a pool at the complex, for example. So, whenever I go to the pool, I take my Bonsai with me.

Sure it's a little strange – but my neighbors already expect that sort of thing from me.

On cooler sunny days (or if I don't feel like walking that far with a five pound midget bush), I generally just grab a comfy folding chair, my laptop, and midget bush to go work outside. Really, I just bought a kid. My whole life changed because I bought an ankle-biting bush for $20.

Don't ever assume that where you buy something is where it will work best. Do your research, especially before you buy a midget bush. :-)
