Changes at BankOne: don't they have computers?

I know, I'm always complaining here in the Real Life Debt Weblog, but it never fails to amaze me how dumb some of the stuff we get really is. On Saturday I got a letter from Carter Franke, the Chief Marketing Officer of Bankone (well, not personally, but his name's on the bottom of the form letter) talking about changes to their privacy policy.

Okay, that's cool. They can obviously change it as they need since they're a business, but it's really stupid when I read this...

"We've enclosed a copy of our Privacy Policy and an important notice about changes to your cardmember agreement ... Our records indicate you hvae already registered your information sharing preferences..."
If they know I've registered my preferences, why can't they remind me or show me what's changed since I last read the agreement?

Again, it's as if these companies deliberately try to obfuscate what's going on, deliberately try to make it as hard as possible to hold on to our right of privacy and confidentiality. But they wouldn't do that, would they? :-(
